When your trying to setup GNS3 to use your VirtualBox VM’s, there may be a problem when trying to run the configuration and add VM’s.
When you go to Edit > Preferences > VirtualBox to configure and add VM’s, you start in the General Settings tab.
There you will select the Test Settings button. Kiwi for gmail 2 0 32. My problem (and many others) was that it would error out and not connect to your VBox installation.
This causes you to not be able to add VM’s in the VirtualBox Guest tab.

The fix is as follows…
Go to your GNS3 installation folder (in my case, C:Program FilesGNS3) and manually run the vboxwrapper.exe file.
This will open a command-line window identifying the VirtualBox Wrapper version and tell you it’s listening on all network interfaces, etc…

Now, go back to your GNS3 Preferences again and click the Test Settings again. It will pop up an message that says it is already running, but no worries.
As long as you get that message you are ok.

I’m still testing, but you may have to manually run the vboxwrapper.exe application every time you want to add a new VM to GNS3. I have done it several times and I always have to manually run the vboxwrapper.exe application.

Virtualbox 6.0.8
I downloaded a couple of the very small footprint Linux appliances from the GNS3 page and they had some problems with their boot, but the Linux Microcore 4.7.1 (.ova) and Linux-MicroCore-4.0.2-Clean (.vdi) are good to go.
Now, go to the VirtualBox Guest tab and you will see your VM’s in the drop-down menu. Just select them and you are on your way.
